You’re spoiled for choice in Wellington, as there’s plenty to do at this time of year. From art exhibitions to festivals, here are some of the best things to do over the next few months in Wellington.
1. Visit the Van Gogh Alive Exhibition
This incredibly popular event is back in New Zealand for a full tour to kick off the year. Complete with moving images, soundtracks and custom-made aromas, this is one you really do not want to be missing.

2. Catch some wonderful performances at Wellington Pasifika Festival 2021
One of the best day outs of the year in Wellington. It attracts many visitors each year for a cracking day of food, art, music and more – and is a celebration of the Pasifika Islands. Get yourself down there now!

3. Sip on a cocktail at Waiheke Island’s brand new boutique gin distillery and garden bar
This is just made for the summer, isn’t it? The all new spot is having its grand opening today, and will be open for visitors all through the warm period. Its idyllic setting looks over the ocean and is the perfect spot to enjoy a drink with a view.

4. Visit the stalls and watch some acts at Newtown Festival’s Free Fair
The Newtown Street fair is back, promising the return of it’s fun and family friendly stalls alongside a number of performers. More than 150 acts and 400 stalls, to be precise. You know this one is gonna be a lovely ol’ time.

5. Check out the wonderful free concerts at Wellington Botanic Gardens
Gardens Magic 2021 is here and it gives you three weeks of lovely live music from Wellington’s local talent. Plus, it’s all completely free. Grab a beer and watch some acts on a warm summer evening. That sounds like bliss.

6. Have a boogie at Wellington’s Most Vibrant Street Festival
CubaDupa 2021 is just a couple of months away, and we honestly can’t wait. The festival spans across the entirety of Cuba Street, as well as the nearby parks. All the bars, restaurants get involved in the party, and, of course, attendees will have live music, performance art and more as entertainment.

7. Head to the Te Papa Exhibition of wearable art
To immerse yourself in the world of creative outfits, it is essential that you go and view the World Of Wearable Art – Up Close exhibition. Visitors are blessed with incredible detail with hundreds of different materials put into making the pieces.

8. Treat yourself to a couple at Gindulgence festival
Gindulgence is returning to Wellington, much to the delight of many. You’ll be treated to the two-day affair boasting fourteen different distilleries. You even get a free G&T glass with each ticket!

9. Venture Into The Two-Storey Labyrinth Of Black Wool Exhibition From Chiharu Shiota
Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota newest installation is twisting its way into the Te Papa museum in Wellington. It’s a two-storey tunnel that leads visitors through it’s labyrinth walls of black wool. Guests at the museum will even be able to climb their way through the artwork!
