Time for a merry ride into spring 2020.
We’re a fun ol’ bunch over here in Wellington. But you already knew that. As we head into the spring, as the weather improves, as our moods skyrocket — we ask one thing. What is the ultimate activity as the race towards summer begins? Hmm. Truth is, that heavily depends on you. We have a suggestion that might tick the boxes for many. Wine tasting tour, anyone?
We’ll assume that’s a resounding hell yeah, and crack on with telling you about some of the top tours in Wellington, shall we?
1. Martinborough Wine Tours
First up is a lively five-hour tour of the Martinborough wine region. You can head there in small groups to make your way around three splendid wineries and taste all the fine product from their cellars. Visitors enjoy the stunning views of the Remutaka Ranges. Animal lovers will even get to catch some lovely alpacas along the way! Half tours lasting three-hours are also available.
2. Palliser Bay
The wonderful tour of Palliser Bay takes you through the spectacular landscape. Also hailing from around Martinborough, this tour ensures each visitor is well stocked with food, wine and glorious sights. A scrumptious lunch is included in the price so it really adds up to a complete day out for all. You might even be lucky enough to catch sight of a seal wading through the ocean on your waterfront tour!
3. About The Wairarapa
This company offer you the chance to explore vineyards in Martinborough in a unique way. About The Wairarapa invite visitors to catch the train from Wellington and hop on a bike upon arrival to cycle through the swathes of grapes. From there, you’ll be able to ride around — guided or unguided — while stopping off along the way for food and wine before your train back. A perfect day’s activity to glide into spring.
4. Martinborough Winery and South Wairarapa Wild Coast Tour
This is the mammoth of the Martinborough and Wairarapa region tours. You’ll need to allow 10-hours for this one, but it’s extra hours of tasting and exploring, so who’s complaining? Like the other tours, there are stunning views of the coast, seal colony’s to marvel at and, of course, wines to pick out and taste all throughout the day.
