Fourth place isn’t too bad out of 140 cities globally!
We’ve got amazing news to share with all you Wellington folk, yep that is right, Wellington has been named the globe’s fourth most liveable city, by The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index 2021.
Indeed, coronavirus has had a significant impact on global liveability. And you can see how the crisis has affected the list, with Vienna in Austria, being dropped to 12th place, after taking first place in both 2018 and 2019. However, New Zealand’s management of the virus and strict lockdown measures, has helped our cities earn some top spots on this list. Fantastically, Auckland won first place.
The Economist Intelligence Unit employee, Upasana Dutt, said in a statement: ”New Zealand’s tough lockdown allowed their society to reopen and enabled citizens of cities like Auckland and Wellington to enjoy a lifestyle that looked similar to pre-pandemic life.”
Furthermore, the index chart considers more than 30 factors spanning five categories, these are healthcare (20%), stability (25%), culture and environment (25%), education (10%) and infrastructure (20%). Likewise, for 2021, coronavirus measurements, vaccine rollouts and border restrictions played a vital role in the ranking changes.
Excitingly, our Aussie neighbours earned some top spots on the list with Adelaide coming third place, Perth coming in sixth place, Melbourne at ninth place and Brisbane at tenth place. Secret is so proud of our cities and Wellington making the list of the most liveable places on earth. Be sure to enjoy the benefits!
