Most Virus Restrictions Have Been Lifted Across New Zealand From Today

A return to some kind of normality for now.

Most of the remaining Virus restrictions were lifted across New Zealand today. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed the relaxation of measures would come into effect from yesterday (September 21). This comes after no new cases were reported.

The only exception is Auckland, has some restrictions in place for a further sixteen days. Auckland initially saw an outbreak when the nation opened up after the strict lockdown. However, Auckland is still moving into alert level two of restrictions, where limits of gatherings have increased from 10 to 100 people.

According to the minister of Health, there are 62 active cases in New Zealand, but no new instances have been reported.

Jacinda Ardern said: “Please continue to use the COVID app, maintain good hygiene practices, stay home and get tested if sick. And if you are travelling on a plane that isn’t travelling in or out of Auckland, you are not required to wear a mask, but we do still encourage it.”

Each other New Zealand region is heading into alert level one. The cabinet plans to meet on October 5 to discuss Auckland’s position, with a view to easing measures by October 7. Measures in alert level one see normality resumed further, with advanced hygiene measures.
