By Jack Saddler

Celebrate pancake day in style.

Shrove Tuesday aka Pancake day is coming up very soon. Tuesday, February 16, to be precise. But, the real question is… Who the hell ever need an excuse to eat a shitload of pancakes, eh? [Featured Image: nikldn, Unsplash].

This list is necessary 365 days of the year, and we won’t stop until we’ve tried all the pancakes in Wellington! No snack can really top the feeling of finishing off your syrup covered stack of beauty. That, my friends, is the ultimate self-care.

Whether it’s at brunch, as an late-afternoon snack, or in the dead of night, there really is no time not to eat pancakes. So you’ll be wanting to know the best places that can quell the sudden craving we all get, quite often in fact, for the sugary goodness.

Here are some of the top places to grab a few (or a lot of) pancakes in Wellington.

1. Victoria Street Café

This is a mean place to start, in the best possible way. Victoria Street Café opens at the crack of dawn meaning you can get your doughy fix at the early hours to set you just right for the day ahead. Plus, the fix itself is a thing of glory. Smother your purchase in all the maple syrup and it’ll satisfy your sweet tooth any day of the week.

📍 98 Victoria Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011.

2. Le Café Plum

Le Café Plum on Cuba Street is a lovely little French café society-style spot to relax in with a freshly brewed coffee and plate filled with pancakes. I mean, just look at them. Holy crêpe, that makes your mouth water, doesn’t it? Well, it shouldn’t look that way for long, because where it really belongs is in your belly!

📍 103A Cuba Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011.

3. Neo Café And Eatery

This spot is very well-known for its lovely grub, and you can bet your bottom dollar that extends to the pancakes. Neo Café And Eatery conjure up some divine creations when it comes to pancakes, with toppings to make your mouth-water just thinking about. There’s even cinnamon pancakes with roasted peach… If that doesn’t appeal to you, I’m not sure what will.

📍 132 Willis Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011.

4. Café Breton

Another truly divine spot for French crêpes and gallettes in Wellington. This restaurant offers a masterful selection of flippin’ excellent fillings, from minced beef to Ratatouille to “crêpe caramel” to banana and Nutella. You really cannot go wrong here.

📍 20 Brandon Street, Wellington Central, Wellington 6011.

5. The Botanist

This lovely Wellington spot serves some stunning buckwheat pancakes, with toppings including banoffee, salted caramel, poached apples and more. We’ll at least attempt to eat them all. These colourful plates are sure to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, and with Valentine’s Day just around the corner too, The Botanist might be your best bet.

📍 219 Onepu Road, Lyall Bay, Wellington 6022.
