Tony and Olivier award-winning musical, Come From Away, will open in cities around Australia this year before moving to New Zealand.
The heart-warming production follows the true journey of 7,000 air passengers, who were grounded in Canada after the tragic events of September 11. Following this, a small community in Gander, Newfoundland welcomed these passengers, giving them the hope and compassion they desperately needed.
After months of rescheduling due to COVID-19, the hit musical will host shows in both Auckland and Wellington in August and September 2023. Producer Rodney Rigby stated that the show is an opportunity to come together and celebrate an inspirational story of hope and humanity.
The inspiring musical was brought to life by writers David Hein and Irene Sankoff. They travelled to Newfoundland and interviewed thousands of locals. Delightfully, Come From Away won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical, as well as four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical. Additionally, since launching in Australia in 2019, it won five Green Room awards. Equally, it was voted by audiences as Ticketmaster’s ‘Ticket of the Year’.
