The Lumino City Festival returns on November 18 and 19. Featuring the largest lanterns New Zealand has ever seen, Wellington Waterfront will be lit up for excited visitors after a two-year hiatus.
The lantern festival creates a world of exhilarating vivid lights and sensory experiences which attracted more than 85,000 visitors in 2020.
Highlights include the return of old favourites such as The Jelly Welly and Dizzy Duck, alongside some new friends like a larger-than-life blue Ice Cream Boy, a Colossal Octopus at Te Papa and the world’s biggest Kiwi.
Additionally, go on a journey around the world without leaving the waterfront by admiring 12 different cultures, brought to you by Wellington-based Embassies. Each embassy has created a monument inspired by its homeland. Think a Mexican Frida Kahlo, a Book of Kells lantern from Ireland and an Aussie Kangaroo to name a few.
The two-day lantern festival also exhibits a night market celebrating Cuba Street’s global eats, an entertaining Wear and Wild Things Are light parade performed by Mila’s Society Entertainment and live performances with a host of international acts. See the timetable here.
