Back in 2021, we brought you the news that Lake Dunstan became home to New Zealand’s first-ever floating burger bar. Curated by the same folks behind Coffee Afloat.
Burger Afloat is an exciting eatery located midway on the 53km Lake Dunstan Cycle & Walking Trail in Central Otago, right next to its sister Coffee Afloat.
Perfect for adventurists, they serve refreshing barista coffees, ice cream, bakery goods and much more. Consequently, if you ever find yourself at Lake Dunstan, you’ll be treated to the best of both worlds on your adventure.
Expect scrumptious award-winning burgers with a brioche bun, topped with local ingredients like lettuce, pinot picked onions, swiss cheese, slow smoked bacon, apricot relish, to name a few. Indeed, it’s a fantastic boost midway through your journey. Additionally, don’t forget about the Maori history, culture, vineyards and more to appreciate along the way.
Admirably, the brains behind both ventures are friendly locals, Richard and Jolanda Foale. They have been providing walkers and cyclists with a much-needed caffeine boost on the trail for some time now.
As indicated, this floating burger bar is on the South Island which is far from Wellington. Nevertheless, put it on your South Island bucket list. For more information, visit the Coffee Afloat website. Alternatively, check out their Facebook page for the latest updates.
