Kiwis will be pretty familiar with the long-endured pain of having limited options when it comes to taking a direct flight to a land far away. Unless, of course, you plan on sticking around the Pacific. But all that’s finally about to change, thanks to Air New Zealand. Indeed, a set of direct flights to New York from Auckland is set to launch this September. Spring trip to the Big Apple, anyone?
Benefitting not only those who live in NZ, but Americans who wish to explore new horizons after the two-year-long pandemic, the flight is set to be the fourth-longest in the world and will take 17 hours to arrive at its destination of JFK Airport.
Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran said: “In the six years leading up to COVID, the US visitor numbers to New Zealand doubled so we expect our much-awaited non-stop service to be incredibly strong year-round,
Adding: “To ensure customers arrive in New York feeling refreshed, we’ve put a lot of thought into the onboard experience and teams are working around the clock to make sure this a great flying experience,”
The brand new flight was set to launch before the pandemic, however, due to tough travel restrictions here in New Zealand, Air New Zealand was forced to put the launch on hold.
Launching this September 17, flights will depart on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, leaving Auckland at 7.40pm and arriving in NYC approximately 16 hours later – while returning flights will leave NYC at 9.55pm and arrive in Auckland 17 hours later. The direct flights to New York comes after news of reopening of the borders internationally.
