This looks stunning!
Ever wondered what the results of a Japanese and Peruvian mixed cuisine and cocktail experience would be like? Well, you don’t need to ponder on it, because that’s arrived in Wellington! [Featured Image: @yakisodanz, Instagram].
Yakisoda brings a “Nekkei” culture to New Zealand with its unique meld of ingredients to deliver a truly unique experience. Giancarlo Jesus and Kerry Burgess, owners of the new pop-up, dreamed up the idea of mixing Peruvian street food and Japanese highballs over the COVID-19 lockdown.
The spot promises drinks such as “Peruvian pisco highball mixed with Albariño white wine, sake and bitter orange neroli soda”. That may sounds like a mouthful, but the new bars intend to offer an all new drinking experience to the Wellington scene.
If you get hungry after a bunch of those highballs, no sweat. YakiSoda has got you covered in that area too. Try out some toasted cancha corn with chilli, hailing from South America. Or, you could go for some Japanese-style grilled rice balls with pork or eggplant, market fish ceviche, vegetable tempura and much more.
Yakisoda promises a wonderful culinary and drinking experience, so be sure to get down there and support it if you can. It’s currently open as a pop-up inside BOL, Victoria’s street’s spot for salad while it looks for a permanent location. Head there on the hours of Wednesday-Sunday between 4pm-midnight.
