A Tchaikovsky ballet—whether Swan Lake, The Nutcracker or Sleeping Beauty—is an experience hard to beat. Together, the music and the ballet are sensational and for centuries they have played off of each other to enthrall audiences and transport them to far away places. These ballets, however, are a grand spectacle that do not come around very often. But thanks to Candlelight Ballet, Wellingtonians can get a taste of the magic.
An intimate and beautiful setting at Lower Hutt Events Centre Townhall will welcome guests who, surrounded by candlelight, will marvel at ballerinas Ariah Mandeno, Emma McWhinnie and Charly Hopkins twirl, spin, leap and glide as Vivid Strings Quartet make their instruments sing.
Tickets are on sale now for Candlelight Ballet.
Choreographed by New Zealand’s own Lesley Bandy, whose astounding career saw her perform with the Royal Opera Ballet at Covent Garden as well as in productions across the world, the ballerinas will feature during renditions of Sleeping Beauty Waltz, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Arabian Dance, Dance of the Mirlitons and Waltz of the Flowers.
Not to be outdone, Vivid Strings Quartet will continue the magic with even more elegant sounds and awe-inspiring pieces. Candlelight Ballet promises to be an unbeatable experience and we can’t think of a better way to spend an evening than with a magical night of classical music with accompanying dance performances unfolding before your eyes.
Candlelight Ballet takes twice each night with performances at 6:30pm and 8:30pm.
Please Note: For the safety of performers and the audience, the candles are flameless.
