From iconic movies to TV shows, we’ve narrowed down 24 of our favourites on Netflix New Zealand to provide you with some well needed laugh-out-loud entertainment.

1. Murder Mystery

Watch the fantastic duo, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston portray a New York cop and his wife who go on a European trip to try and repair their marriage. However, after being invited onto a billionaires yacht, they must comically solve a baffling murder or get framed for it. Indeed, the perfect LOL this weekend.

2. Norbit

Revisit this 2007 romantic comedy that follows Norbit (Eddie Murphy), who was left orphaned at a Chinese restaurant as a child. After being bullied into marrying an overbearing woman, he then meets the girl of his dreams, who just so happens to be a childhood sweetheart. But can Norbit find a way back to his true love?

3. Bad Boy Bunny

This 1993 Australian flick never gets old. It follows a man who accidently kills his parents after being kept in his home as a prison for 35 years. The man called Buddy played by Nicholas Hope then escapes into the real world that is entirely unknown to him. Indeed, as hard as it is to comprehend, there are some hilarious parts to get you laughing.

4. Red Notice

This $200 million budget thriller movie is being absorbed by households around the globe. With a stellar cast, from Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, and more…you know it’s going to be good. It comically follows an FBI agent on an adventure across the world, attempting the world’s most wanted art thief.

5. American Hustle

One of the funniest movies of 2014 is available to stream on Netflix New Zealand. It follows two con artists, played by Amy Adams and Christian Bale, who are forced, by an FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) to set up a sting operation on corrupt government officials. With a stellar cast, including Jennifer Lawrence and Jeremy Renner…you know you won’t be disappointed.

6. Bridesmaids

This romantic comedy is arguably, one of the most hilarious ever made. It tells the tale of jobless Annie (Kristen Wiig), a single woman with a messy life. When her lifelong bestie, Lillian (Maya Rodolph) gets engaged, she is asked to be the Maid Of Honor. However, she comes into serious conflicts with one of Lillian’s other bridesmaid, the beautiful and rich, Helen (Rose Byrne) who would rather lavish celebrations. Indeed, you’ll be LOLing off the couch this weekend.

7. Superbad

This 2007 comedy blockbuster never gets old. It follows three nerdy best friends, while they navigate their last few weeks of high school. When they are invited to a huge party, they go on a mission to try and secure alcohol, to impress girls, and get some sex before college. Unfortunately, they end up in serious ropes of trouble. The hilarious dialogue, McLovin’s epic one-liners, and memorable characters will have you rolling off the couch with laughter.

8. I, Tonya

Starring Margot Robbie, this drama comedy film is based on a true story. It tells the real-life scandalous events of talented figure skater Tonya Harding, who was the first American woman to complete a triple axel. However, in 1994, her life turned upside-down after her ex-husband planned an attack on her Olympic competition, Nancy Kerrigan, that forced her to withdraw. Tonya’s attitude is enough to put you into fits of laughter.

9. White Chicks

Another blast from the past, this 2004 comedy movie will have you in stiches no matter how many times you’ve seen it. It tells the tale of two FBI agents, Kevin (Shawn Wayans) and Marcus (Marlon Wayans), who land in hot water at work. After upsetting two socialites they are escorting to the Hamptons, the girls refuse to go, so the FBI agents are forced to pose as the sisters. Totally worth the watch!

10. Ted 1 & 2

This entertaining masterpiece tells the story of a teddy bear who comes to life after his owner, John, wished that he could talk as a child. However, in adulthood, Ted clings to John, and is not prepared when John’s girlfriend wants Ted to move out. This leads the way for the story to follow over two movies. Additionally, Ted’s comical New York accent, foul mouth and one-liners are enough to make you giggle.

11. We’re The Millers

A 2013 crime comedy movie that was adored by people across the globe. It follows a drug dealer called David, who is forced to smuggle drugs from Mexico. He hatches a plan which involves hiring a stripper, a thief and his nerdy teenage neighbour to pose as his fake family to help him struggle the drugs into the states. With a stellar cast, from Jennifer Aniston, to Emma Roberts, Jason Sudeikis, and more…you won’t be disappointed.

12. Friends

Still, 19 years later, this comedy show never fails to make us laugh repeatedly at the same jokes. Let Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Ross and Chandler provide you with some LOLs this weekend as they navigate life experiences, from love to marriage to plenty of divorces, cough cough Ross, to heartbreaks and all sorts of craziness. 13. Shrek 1 & 2

These animation comedy movies are the perfect watch with family. In Shrek 1, it follows a reclusive ogre who embarks on a journey with a hilarious donkey to get fairytale creatures off his land. However, if he wants the creatures to leave, he must rescue Princess Fiona as part of a quest from an arrogant lord. Certainly, a fantastic comedy movie to watch this weekend.


14. Vivo

You don’t need to be a kid to watch this 2021 Netflix Original animation flick which is being absorbed by households around the globe right now. With fantastic all-new music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, it tells the tale of a music-obsessed Kinkajou (voiced by Lin-Manuel Miranda), who embarks on an unforgettable, musical journey to deliver a love song to Marta, for his owner Andres. Indeed, one of the greatest Netflix comedies to boost your mood.

15. Ginny & Georgia

This treasured Netflix series follows an awkward 15-year-old Ginny Miller (Antonia Gentry) and her 30-year-old free-spirited mother, Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) as they settle down in New England after years on the run. Though, Georgia’s past threatens any sort of possibility of a normal life. Amongst the emotion and drama, you can expect to get plenty of bellyaches filled with laughter.

16. Pitch Perfect 1, 2 & 3

Let the iconic Rebel Wilson, Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and more famous faces, brighten up your day with this musical comedy trilogy. It follows a group of diverse girls, from mean chicks to odd girls, who would never be friends, only that they have found common ground while singing together. 17. Pineapple Express

This 2008 classic features Seth Rogers, James Franco and lots more iconic stars. It tells the story of a perpetually stoned process server and his kindhearted dealer when they witness a murder and they must go on the run from a drug lord who wants to kill them. 18. Yes Day

This charming family movie stars Jennifer Garner as mother Allison, along with her husband Carlos, who agree to take part in a ”Yes Day” to please their children. Therefore, for 24 hours they must say yes to everything the kids want to do. This sets the chaotic scenes ahead. 19. Sex Education

This sex comedy drama series is, arguably, the funniest show you will ever watch. Catch up on season one, two and three now which follows a teenage boy, Otis (Asa Butterfield) with an embarrassing sex therapist mother (Gillian Anderson). Otis, with help from a classmate, secretly and mistakenly sets up a sex therapy clinic at school in exchange for money.

This 2015 comedy movie never gets old. Follow single professional writer Amy (Amy Schumer) who fears commitment until she meets a dreamy sports doctor, who she is covering a story on. 23. Sausage Party

For the adults that love animation, this comedy adventure flick is just for you. Bizarrely, it tells the story of talking food items in a local supermarket. Frank (Seth Rogen) the sausage, and his gang of friends, from a Hot Dog Bun, to a Taco, and more desire to be purchased by humans. However, they soon learn that they will be eaten. Therefore, they devise a plan to escape from being captured by humans. Definitely, one of the best Netflix comedies to watch.

24. Emily In Paris

One of the greatest new Netflix shows, we find the jokes in this Emmy and Oscar-nominated show hilarious. It follows American marketing executive, Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), works for her company’s team in Paris. From fashion to travel, feminism and romance…there is plenty to get excited about.
